The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road, also known as“One Belt One Road” is a development strategy and framework, proposed by People’s Republic of China that focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries primarily in Eurasia, which consists of two main components, the land-based “Silk Road Economic Belt” (SREB) and oceangoing “Maritime Silk Road” (MSR). The strategy underlines China’s push to take a bigger role in global affairs, and its need to export China’s production capacity in areas of overproduction.

France is an important part of “One Belt One Road”, and Chinese international students in France are the effective strengths to boost the cooperation between China and France. To help those students better comprehend this strategy, “One Belt One Road” Talent Summit Forum was held at ESSEC La Défense Campus on October 31. The forum was hosted by Union des Chercheurs et des Étudiants Chinois en France, Tongji University Alumni Association in France and co-hosted by ESSEC CHINE.

Two distinguished guests were invited to the forum, Dr. Fancheng MENG, partner of Heidrick&Struggles, and Mr. Luzheng SONG, political scientist in France. Dr. MENG presented his report of “The demand and lack of international talents in One Belt One Road in view of the Greek Crisis”. He demonstrated the international talents challenge that China will face during the fulfillment of “One Belt One Road” in detail. On the other hand, Mr. Song analyzed the influence of “One Belt One Road” on China’s relationship with United States, Europe, Islamic countries and Russia. Besides, he proposed the economic and political meaning of “One Belt One Road” to the countries along the routes of SREB and MSR.

Through those two impressive reports, the Chinese students at present got a deeper understanding of “One Belt One Road”. During the Q&A part, a lot of students raised their questions to Dr. MENG and Mr. SONG and discussed the influence of “One Belt One Road” on Chinese international students deep further.

Afterwards, the organizers provided a cocktail party for guests and students, allowing them to share more ideas in a casual way. Students took advantage of this precious opportunity to get more inspiration from guests and other colleagues.

Through the cooperation and share of resources by Union des Chercheurs et des Étudiants Chinois en France, Tongji University Alumni Association and ESSEC CHINE, the “One Belt One Road” Talents Summit Forum was a great success. Those three associations are aimed to provide better service for Chinese international students in France and promote the Sino-French friendship. Keep tuned for more wonderful activities!
