ESSEC has organized its second edition Involvement Week from October 12 to October 17 this year, whose goal is to highlight the different forms of commitment which express themselves throughout the year at our school and strengthen the ties within our community, among students, professors, alumni and members of staff. This year’s theme is Body & Soul. Throughout the week, more than 60 events – debates, conferences, workshops, forums, performances – have taken place on our campuses in Cergy, at the CNIT and in Singapore. with a very strong mobilization of student associations.

In July this year, to response to the appeal from a social enterprise named Bottle Dream, ESSEC CHINE joined the “Crowdsourcing Projection”and intended to project ‘Be A Changemaker’in Paris with totally 423 projection space located in 150 cities all over the world. The spirit of the documentary amazingly matches the year’s theme ‘Body & Soul’, and thus ESSEC CHINE decided to submit the projection activity of ‘Be A Changemaker’in ESSEC, making the whole story rendered special meaning. The project gained strong support from the college to pass on the social innovative concept of ‘be a change maker’.

At 8 pm, on October 14, the projection of ‘Be A Changemaker’ started on time at PA104 in Cergy le haut campus. The documentary records the social innovative efforts made by change makers all over the world with different culture backgrounds. For example, the Haven training restaurant founded by a couple is non-profitable. It trained Cambodian children live in orphanage in order to make them strong enough to live in society, rather than losing the chance of live better just because their unique experience. The ‘Give me tap’ project cooperates with restaurant, like Pizza Hut, and other constitutions to reduce the use of bottle water and encourage the public to use cups. It promotes the society to save energy and protect the environment. While the ‘Pragulic’ project hires tramps in Prague as city guiles which not only solve the work problem but also make the travelers get unique experience.

Other than the projection, ESSEC CHINE has orchestrated three interactive games, which were Self-portrait, Who is the most lovable and Amazing Q&A, to help the audience feel the cognitive experience between people. In Amazing Q&A game, each audience have written one question that they wanted to ask and an answer of another totally irrelevant question. Then the host made pairs randomly. The result of each pair made the audience surprised, or even shocked.

Q: Why students from business schools are indifferent sometimes?

A: Because you are special.

Q: Why are we more motivated when it’s not mandatory?

A:Because you only live once.

The two pairs Q&A above just chimed in with what we want to express. We not only expect students in Business School can explore their own special, but also hope them could find that there is still much room for our society to improve. Besides, they could improve the world around themselves by taking actions through internal driving.

Just as the saying in the end of the film, ‘you realized your power and use that power, and all the impossible things will be transferred into possible by you. Think about it and work hard on it.’

‘Find a problem that you concern, and try to change it by your practice.’

ESSEC CHINE wishes our small projection could sow some tiny seeds inside the audience. No matter how tiny they are, they would be the innovation power in our society. Constant effort brings success. The world would be better just because you and me.

Be a change maker, get involved.
